Big boy from the Meditterranean with a soft and supple side
Chile is blessed with a near perfect climate for growing grapes. The very cold sea to the east and the Andes in the west result in warm days and cool nights with no rainfall during the growing season. All of the water required comes from wells or as run-off from the Andes. Grapes flourish in these conditions and if there was one country in the world that could switch entirely to organic production, it is Chile. There are very few diseases that are major problems and there is little need to spray chemicals. Because Chile is a relative newcomer to the international wine scene it also has some of the most modern and best equipped wineries in the world (and some incredibly good winemakers). Chile can produce unbeatable value for money wines from their high yielding vineyards and these wines play a very valuable and important role in the success of this country. However Chile is no one trick pony and by working in the vineyards to reduce yields and searching out the best terroir Chile is now making world class wine whilst offering outstanding value for money.
