Argentina has woken up. For a long time this potential winemaking colossus has been taking a long-term siesta from the international market. A recent visit has proved that the country is now definitely back on the move. One of the reasons for this is that the vines planted recently in the foothills of the Andes are now bearing fruit. The key area appears to be the Uco Valley with its sub-regions of Tupungato and Vista Flores although many more are to come. The cooler growing regions and the more gravelly soils are proving ideal for both red and white grapes. This area could potentially make some of the best wines in the world with a particularly impressive Cabernet Sauvignon.
